I have been exploring the possibilities of chandeliers working with upcycled materials for the past 20 years. Originally working with beach glass, I now shop at thrift stores for patterned glass vases, bottles, and plates in different colors that I breaking and tumbling for a smooth frosted finish.. Each piece of glass is then individually wired and affixed to a metal frame. Also punch cups, candy dishes, decanters and a host of silver chaffing dish holders have come into play. They have a "modern artifact" look that can be very nostalgic and are a real show stopper. Custom work is available in virtually any color, size and form desired.
What was born of the need for materials on a tight budget has now been recognized as upcycle art. I think of it as my opportunity to educate people to think before they throw something away.
